Belgium paves way for more offshore wind

Belgium will allocate space for at least twice as many wind turbines, announces the government. Up to 4 GW offshore wind will take over for an aging nuclear power plant.

Belgian waters will soon make way for more offshore wind farms. From 2020, 221 square kilometers of sea will be allocated to new turbines, reports Reuters. This is double the amount of offshore wind in the country today.

With the additional farms, the current 871 MW of offshore wind turbines could become 2.2 GW in 202 and 4 GW in 2030.
