Siemens Gamesa puts figures on German layoffs

The turbine producer's employees in Northern Germany, in particular, are hit by the layoffs. Germany and Denmark will remain crucial for offshore wind, says the CEO, while the new nacelle factory in Cuxhaven has dodged dismissals.

Siemens Gamesa's German employees look set to escape fairly mercifully from the company's latest round of dismissals. In total, the wind turbine manufacturer will dismiss up to 213 of its approximately 1,900 employees in Germany over the period up to November 2019.

The dismissals will predominantly be carried out in Bremen and Hamburg, which together with Vejle in Denmark houses the headquarters of the offshore wind division. However, the new, large-scale nacelle factory for offshore wind turbines in Cuxhaven will not be included, writes Siemens Gamesa in a press release according to German media Handelsblatt.
