Green investments decline to lowest level in 18 months

Global solar power markets are in dire straits and this contributed to dragging down total investment decisions for renewable energy projects in the first quarter of the year. But the European offshore wind market is expected to soon pick up the pace.

Global investments in renewable energy took a dive in the first quarter 2018, according to figures from Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF).

In the first three months of this year, a total of USD 61 billion was invested in solar panels, wind turbines, biomass and similar energy infrastructure, which corresponds to a decline of around 10 percent relative to the same period in 2017. The number also marks a small decline from the fourth quarter, which is the usual development with the exception of the transition to 2017.
