Statoil's floating wind farm exceeds expectations

The world's first floating wind farm performed better during its first three months of operation than even the owners had hoped.

The first three months of full operations went better than expected for Statoil's Hywind farm in Scotland, writes the firm in the press release.

The 30 MW wind farm produced at 65 percent of capacity in November, December and January. Statoil writes that a typical offshore wind farm, fixed to the ocean floor, can produce 45-60 percent during winter months.
