Onshore wind now beats fossil energy globally in price

A continued decline in price means that not only solar power and onshore wind will be cheaper than fossil energy in 2020, but the same will be true of offshore wind and other renewables, according to a new report. However, Europe might lose jobs.

Last year, broke records for renewable energy prices around the world, including Mexican wind for DKK 10.8 cents/kWh (EUR 1.4 cents/kWh) and Saudi solar for DKK 10.4 cents/kWh.

But beyond remarkable prices on ideally located markets, 2017 was also the year in which onshore wind and solar became globally cheaper than fossil energy technologies, determines the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in a new report.
