Siemens Gamesa sells 1,702 MW of its new turbine on day one

Ørsted will debut the new turbine platform from Siemens Gamesa on its Dutch Borssele wind farms. While the new offshore wind turbine starts off successfully, the onshore turbines from Siemens face a different future.

Tuesday was a good day for Siemens Gamesa's offshore wind division. While the manufacturer's new offshore wind turbine was presented at the wind conference WindEurope in Amsterdam, orders concurrently ticked in from Sweden and Denmark.

Vattenfall ordered a triple whammy with 113 8-MW turbines for the Danish farms Kriegers Flak, Vesterhav Syd and Vesterhav Nord. Ørsted then emerged with a specification of its order for 94 turbines for Dutch farms Borssele 1 and 2. Overall, the first day of orders amounted in 207 turbines and 1,702 MW, though the 752 MW for the Borssele farms are not a new order.
