Major temperature hikes ahead for the Arctic

New international research report heralds several years of significant temperature increases in the Arctic – regardless of what we do.

Despite record heat in the Arctic, rising temperatures are nowhere near reaching their peak in the coldest corners of the globe.

Headed towards the middle of this millennium, the temperature in the Arctic will rise further by several degrees, conclude more than 90 scientists in the new "Snow, Water, Ice and Permafrost in the Arctic" (SWIPA 2017) assessment, delivered by the Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Program, which is one of six Working Groups of the Arctic Council.
