Danish PM awaits EU call on Nord Stream II

The Danish government wants the EU to take a stance on a new Russian pipeline to be constructed through Danish territorial waters. Denmark's ability to block the plans is limited.

The Danish government has a limited ability to block the construction of the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream II through its territorial waters near the Danish island of Bornholm.

This is the statement from Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen after it emerged that Gazprom, the Russian company behind the pipeline, would be submitting a formal application for a construction permit this week.
