Sweden considers scrapping municipal veto against wind power

Too many delays and hindrances now prompt the country the reconsider municipal veto rights concerning wind energy installations.

Sweden's municipal veto right regarding wind power has garnered much criticism due to delays and interrupted construction processes, says the wind sector. Now the government is drafting the possibility of repealing the legal clause.

One of the reasons behind the government's considerations is the national climate, which Stockholm points out will require phasing out fossil energy usage while installing more wind power to achieve the 100-percent renewable generation goal by 2040.
