Europe's largest countries set green records in 2018

The big European economies beat green power generation records in 2018. Renewable energy sources in Germany produced more electricity than the country's coal-fired plants for the first time, and UK power plants produced the lowest volume of power since 1994.


Media coverage in 2018 may have been massively focused on droughts, forest fires, storms and hurricanes, moving climate change to the top of the agenda everywhere in Europe. But if one feels burdened by worrisome climate issues, there is some consolation to be found in the largest European countries' figures on energy production for 2018.
