Germany maintains stance on Nord Stream 2

Critics of the gas project fear the pipeline will make Europe and Germany dependent on Russian gas.

Germany maintains its decision to approve Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream 2, designed to run through the Baltic Sea, despite increased geopolitical tensions with Russia.

German government spokesperson Steffen Seibert has confirmed the stance at a time when the crisis between Ukraine and Russia has escalated due to Russian seizure of three Ukrainian vessels along the eastern Crimean Kerch Penninsula.
