When the interests of Danish energy companies are advocated in Brussels, Jørgen Skovmose Madsen tends to be involved. As director of European affairs for the Danish Energy Association, he compares the legislative processes in Brussels to a renowned cycling competition held in France.

"The political process in the EU is kind of like Tour de France. One cannot win the whole race in a single stretch, but it is possible to lose. It is therefore important to be present throughout the entire process – from the point when political visions are generated to the final leg. I have no doubt that it's vital to enter the process as early as possible. That's probably written in bold on the title page of most handbooks for political lobbying," Madsen writes in an email to EnergyWatch's sister site, PolicyWatch.
