Trump is serious about coal – but energy sector is unconvinced

ANALYSIS: Seen from a European perspective, the US government playing cheerleader for the coal industry may seem grotesque. But in Washington D.C., it tops the agenda. Tangible support for the industry is, however, difficult to spot.


Few things have been consistent in Donald Trumps first one-and-a-half-year presidential term. However, Trump has maintained complete continuity in declaring a renaissance for the US coal industry and thereby restoring lost jobs in peripheral states such as West Virgina and Wyoming.
