EU analysis calls for more ambitious renewables targets in 2030

A new EU analysis adds recent years of declining prices on renewable energy to former calculations and concludes that it will be far cheaper than originally anticipated to reach the 27 percent renewables target in the EU by 2030.

When the EU Commission presented its Winter Package in November 2016, which contains eight legislative proposals for the energy sector, the commission proposed that renewables should make up 27 percent of the EU's energy consumption in 2030.
