Major German coalition rumored to be close

After almost four months with no government in Germany, Angela Merkel and the German social democratic party SPD are close to teaming up. The nation will allegedly drop its 2020 target for CO2 emissions, however, green ambitions for 2030 will significantly increase.

2018 marked a first for Germany.

A combination of strong winds and low consumption on the first day of the year meant that the German electricity consumption was covered by 100 percent renewable energy for the first time. The mix was 85 percent wind with some hydropower and biomass.
