Diplomatic tension in the Middle East shakes up the gas market

Qatar is being boycotted by several of its neighbors which could turn the natural gas market upside down. Maersk Oil operates the largest offshore gas field in the country, but has not been impacted by the tensions so far.

Summer has arrived in the Northern Hemisphere and the heat is also rising in the Middle East as tension has reached a boiling point with regard to Qatar.

This Sunday, several countries in the region announced that they were cutting diplomatic ties with Qatar. These five nations are Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Bahrain, and Yemen. According to multiple news bureaus, Saudi Arabia is leading the charge against Qatar, as Saudi Arabia claims that the country supports terrorists in Iran.
