Major driller merges with US firm in USD 836 million deal

A large British drilling company is now leaving other players far behind, taking the first place among drilling companies.

British driller Ensco, which is one of the world's biggest leasers of drilling vessels and drilling rigs, is now purchasing US competitor Atwood Oceanics in a combined deal worth around USD 863 million (EUR 770 million).

Ensco, headquartered in London, writes on its website that the acquisition will significantly strengthen the company's existing fleet which will gain technically advanced drilling vessels.
