Statoil names its top pick for chairman

After stepping down from his CEO post yesterday after a nine-year run, the 60-year old geophysicist has now been nominated to the post as chairman of the largest energy company.

Jon Erik Reinhardsen will likely serve as the next chairman of the board at Statoil, after the nomination committee of the Norwegian oil company picked the 60-year old Norwegian to take over the post after Øystein Løseth announced he was stepping down at the end of June.

"The choice of Jon Erik Reinhardsen is based on his deep industrial and global experience, paired with broad background from management of large organisations, including as CEO of a truly global company," says the nomination committee chair, Tone Lunde Bakker, in a press release from Statoil confirming the news.
