Dong merger is the cheap solution for Maersk Oil

After a strategy shift and a huge carrier acquisition, Maersk will not cough up huge sums to buy Dong's oil division. This means the prospect of a cheap merger is alluring, say analysts. The question is whether Dong is willing.

The future of Maersk lies in its recently established transport division.

This is the essence of the group's new strategy, and therefore nothing suggests that the company will burn cash on Maersk Oil acquisitions in order to increase the company's volumes with a potential stock exchange listing or divestment.
