Maersk Drilling boosted by income from fleeing customer

Maersk Drilling has delivered surprising progress in the third quarter. However, this is mainly due to income from a premature canceling on a drilling rig contract.

To the surprise of many, Maersk Drilling boosted operating earnings in the third quarter. However, this is mostly attributable to a one-off income from a customer cancellation of a drilling contract on the vessel Maersk Valiant.

Maersk Group's drilling division made USD 501 million (EUR 451.5 million) in operations before depreciations and impairments (EBITDA) in the quarter, and thus performed much better than analyst expectations of USD 318 million, according to data gathered by Ritzau Estimates.
