Researchers say TotalEnergies failed to disclose climate change effects for decades

French oil and gas supermajor TotalEnergies is weighed down by a new research article showing the company for years remained silent on the damage its oil operations would do. TotalEnergies denies this criticism.

As has been the case for a few of the US oil giants, France's TotalEnergies (formerly Total) is now accused of failing to disclose to the public its knowledge of the consequences the company's oil operations have had for the climate.

In the early 1970s, the company already knew that major oil output equaled to global warming, reports a new research article published in scientific journal Global Environmental Change.
