British shipowners call for zero carbon emissions by 2050

The UK Chamber of Shipping wants the IMO to aim for zero carbon emissions in shipping by 2050 rather than the current target of a 50-percent reduction.

The shipowners gathered in the UK Chamber of Shipping now call for zero emissions in shipping by 2050.

British shipowners want the UN International Maritime Organization (IMO) to raise its ambitions drastically and work towards a zero carbon emission target in shipping by 2050 instead of the current target, which only involves halving emissions by that date measured against 2008 levels.
