TotalEnergies planning major CCS effort in Danish North Sea

French oil supermajor TotalEnergies has been secretly working on a grand CCS plan and hopes to be able to store up to 16 million tonnes of CO2 in the Danish North Sea, the giant confirms in correspondence with EnergyWatch.

Recently, Danish consortium Greensand led by chemical group Ineos took a big step toward realizing Denmark's first commercial carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) project. This happened when the now 29 partners announced they would launch a pilot project to test the concept, which involves storage below the Nini field once it's depleted. But Ineos isn't alone with such a plan for the Danish underground.

EnergyWatch reveals that the biggest oil and gas operator in the country, French supermajor TotalEnergies (formerly Total), is working actively to establish CCs in the North Sea. The government has designated the technology an absolute key area for climate change mitigation in Denmark.
