Climate activists secure Exxon board seats

Approaching its annual general meeting, Exxon Mobil had urged shareholders to reelect the current board of directors, saying it was working to address the issue of climate change.

Investors seeking to direct Exxon Mobil toward more green endeavors have secured at least two representatives on the US oil supermajor's board of directors.

This happened at the initiative of Engine No. 1, one of the company's smaller shareholders, which holds that the current board is not doing enough to adapt the firm to a future with reduced focus on fossil fuels in favor of renewable energy.
