UK outlines future halt to oil extraction

In the wake of Denmark's big North Sea oil license moratorium and extraction halt revealed last week, Britain follows suit with its own fossil energy discontinuation plan while also seeking to maintain investment.

With only a few weeks left before Brexit takes effect and a trade deal with the EU still absent, the UK government has a lot on its plate these days. However, the show must go on, so it seems, and Downing Street has also managed to find the time to contemplate the demise of domestic oil and gas.

Such is the gist of British media reporting Tuesday on a white paper seeking both to support new investments in the industry post-Covid-19 as well as making sure the country's energy regulator is given further jurisdiction to enforce emissions reductions.
