Total inks deal with Hafnia for new LNG vessels

French oil major Total has signed a deal with Hafnia to charter several LNG-powered ships that will hit the water a few years from now. LNG represents the best best and immediately available option to reduce shipping's carbon footprint, says Total.

Oil major Total has signed an agreement with BW Group's tanker operator Hafnia and Viken Shipping to charter four new LNG-powered tanker ships.

Hafnia will supply two of a total of four newbuilds, while Viken Shipping will supply the other two. All four ships are expected to be delivered in 2023, at which point they will join Total's time charter fleet.
