Oil engineer Opedal drew the longest straw

Norwegian oil giant Equinor has chosen an unexpected candidate as its new CEO: Anders Opedal, 52, specialist in methods for maximizing oil extraction.

Equinor's press officers were busy handling inquiries from visiting journalists when the Norwegian oil firm held its capital markets day on Feb. 6 in London.

After a presentation by people including soon-to-be former CEO Eldar Sætre was over, one man was quietly small-talking with a couple of nearby people on the back row.
