Coronavirus sends 1,000 Norwegian oil workers home

Around 1,000 workers in Norway's oil sector have been sent home indefinitely through a special ordinance called permitting. A labor union says this occurs in accordance with quarantine rules.

The coronavirus has hit few sectors as hard as the oil industry.

Now roughly 1,000 workers in Norway's oil sector are sent home via a so-called permitting ordinance, says Hilde-Marit Rysst from Norwegian energy sector labor union SAFE to domestic media, explaining that the measure is taken in accordance with quarantine rules.
