Shell aims for global electricity dominance

The British-Dutch oil major is aiming for a massive makeover focused on low-carbon energy sources.

Shell is presently one of the world's largest oil and gas enterprises, but the company has other plans for its future. It is planning a fundamental shift with the aim of becoming the world's largest energy company in the 2030s – and via low-carbon sources, reports Financial Times.

Shell Integrated Gas and New Energies Director Maarten Wetselaar thinks Shell can develop an electricity division, which, measured in power distribution, energy trading and "new energies", will be able to grow its new business to the current size of its oil and gas activities.
