Norwegian support for oil exploration continues

Only in Oslo, a majority of the Norwegians wants the country to discontinue the search for more oil and gas deposits, according to new survey.

Norway will remain an oil nation in the future. According to a survey made by Sentio Research for Norwegian media Klassekampen, 59 percent of the population said no when asked whether Norway should stop the search for new oil and gas deposits. 34 percent supported a cessation in oil exploration.

According to the survey, mainly inhabitants of larger Norwegian cities support maintain oil extraction. In the capital Oslo, 49 percent wants to stop exploration for oil and gas, while 44 percent wants to it to continue. On the other hand, two thirds of the inhabitants in the Western Norway region, where the oil industry is based, support oil exploration.
