British energy company BP has started production at one of the UK's biggest new oil developments seen in decades. The company has thus completed a seven-year investment project worth several billion dollars, writes The Wall Street Journal.

The project, dubbed the Clair Ridge project, is located in the North Sea and is expected to strengthen the UK's oil sector by a further 120,000 barrels of oil per day. Thus the new development represents the latest sign of a minor renaissance in the region's oil industry.
