Norwegian politicians want to postpone Statoil's name change

Statoil could run into obstacles in the firm's attempt to change its name. Politicians in Norway have their doubts about the idea.

In Norway, a group of opposition parties is now demanding a discussion in the country's unicameral parliament, Stortinget, about Statoil's plans to change its name to Equinor to fit with a less oil-heavy image.

"The case should be postponed until the plans have been expounded and discussed in Stortinget," reads the proposal presented by the two major opposition parties in the country, the Centre Party (Senterpartiet) and the Norwegian labor party (Arbeiderpartiet).
