Odfjell ship will test fuel cells as future green solution

Norwegian shipping company Odfjell alongside Wärtsilä, Lundin and fuel cell developer Prototech join forces to develop a new fuel cell-based propulsion solution for oceangoing ships. One of the former's vessels will test the technology.

One of Norwegian shipping company Odfjell's vessels will play a pivotal role in a new partnership aimed at coming up with a solution to eliminate CO2 emissions from oceangoing merchant ships – but also to the benefit of the oil and gas industry.

Alongside Finland's Wärtsilä, Swedish oil outfit Lundin Petroleum and fuel cell developer Prototech, Odfjell sets out to develop a new ship propulsion solution based on fuel cells.
