Norway's first electric airplane takes off

An electric airplane developed in Norway will take off on its maiden voyage Monday. However aviation will take decades to transition to electricity-powered models, says one professor.


The first Norwegian electric airplane will take off on its maiden flight Monday afternoon. Norwegian transport minister Ketil Solvik-Olsen will be aboard the small, two-seater airplane, reports Norwegian media bureau NTB.

The plane will take off from Gardemoen airport near the Norwegian capital Olso. The Norwegian state-owned Avinor, which manages over 45 airports, owns the plane.
